Plane or No Plane (“PlaneNoise”) — website and iOS app.

The short version: Plane or No Plane does not have user accounts, does not track you, and does not sell or share your data. Your location is used only on your own device to tailor the forecast to your area — it is never sent to our servers or to anyone else.

Who we are

Plane or No Plane is an independent forecast tool that predicts aircraft-noise conditions near London Heathrow based on wind and runway direction. It is not affiliated with Heathrow Airport, any airline, or any aviation authority. You can contact us at plane@planeornoplane.com.

Location data

If you grant location access, the app uses your position to work out which side of the runway you live on, how far you are from the airport, and the name of your town, so predictions match where you actually are. This all happens on your device:

Your precise coordinates are never transmitted to our servers or to any third party.
Converting your location into a town name is done with Apple’s on-device geocoder — nothing is sent to an external service.
Location is used only to personalise your forecast. It is never used to identify or track you.
You can deny or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings; the app still works using default (Windsor) settings.

What we do receive

To improve prediction accuracy, the app may send an anonymous accuracy correction to our server (a small numeric “bias” value with a count and timestamp). This contains no location, no device identifier, and nothing that can identify you. The app also requests the shared, anonymous forecast data that powers everyone’s predictions.

On-device storage

Your settings and preferences (theme choice, notification toggles, your personal correction history) are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage. They are not uploaded to us.

Notifications

If you enable them, the app sends you local reminders (runway-change alerts, morning and evening digests). These are generated on your device. You can turn them off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

Analytics, advertising and tracking

We do not use third-party advertising, we do not use cross-app or cross-site tracking, and we do not use advertising identifiers. In App Store terms, no data is used to track you.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Your rights

Because we don’t hold personal data that identifies you, there is nothing personal to access, export, or delete on our side. You control everything locally: revoke location access, disable notifications, or delete the app to remove its on-device data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
